- SOUND KNOTS – Knots that maintain their “natural” appearance even after cutting the trunk
- UNSOUND KNOTS – Knots that lose their core after cutting the trunk. The hole formed is then filled
- GROUP KNOTS – Smaller grouped knots that do not exceed 10 mm in diameter. Considered as one knot
- DARK LINES – Discolouration due to minerals within the soil. This could also include elongated knots or black grain
- SPLITS – The centre of the heartwood can show natural splits as it is the most dried part of the trunk
- MEDULLARY RAYS – Also called mirrors, they are the tissues that enable the transportation of nutrients to the centre of the trunk
- SAPWOOD – Soft wood generated by the change of trees during the annual period of resumption of vital activities; it is made of living tissues
- TONAL VARIATION – Chromatic effect in which the older and darker central sections of the tree are in contrast with the younger and lighter outer sections
Original Parquet repeats every selection process of its materials every day, executing the selection of each single plank several times in each department, to ensure that it complies with all the selection criteria defined by the Company. Wood being a natural material, it is inherently difficult to guarantee 100% accuracy during the grading process. Original Parquet strives to make this evaluation process as precise as possible, allowing up to a maximum of 5% of planks that do not meet the parameters described above.
